S&W Bodyguard 2.0 Review: A Bit of a Disappointment

By , on

The S&W Bodyguard 2.0 is one of the hottest new pistols out there. It represents something entirely new in the world of deep-concealment, hideout, non-permissive environment carry. This pistol didn’t quite live up to the hype for me. Read the article below, or watch video for the full review.

The S&W Bodyguard 2.0 Review

The S&W Bodyguard 2.0 is a micro-compact pistol  in .380 ACP. With a stack-and-a-half magazine it holds 10+1 or 11+1 (one mag is marked “12” but I was unable to force a 12th round into it). It is an incredibly small handgun, falling between a S&W J-Frame and the Kel-Tec P-32 in size. The ergonomics of the Bodyguard 2.0 are phenomenal. It feels good in hand, is flat-shooting, and despite being tiny, is a really shootable pistol. On paper it looks like a clear winner.

In my review I found this pistol to be reliable, cycling 750+ rounds of ammunition without a malfunction. This isn’t a huge number, but it’s also nothing to sneeze at. And it’s on par with what other reviews are reporting. Frankly, I’m not too worried about the reliability of this pistol. Ergonomically it is almost there, too…with one notable exception, which I discuss in the video.

Likewise portability is there. This is an exceptionally small, lightweight pistol. not only that, but holsters are already widely available for it including the PHLster Enigma, pocket holsters, and ankle holsters.

Complaints

My S&W Bodyguard 2.0 review differs from most in that I have some complaints. One is the aforementioned ergonomics issue. This was more of an issue than I imagined it would be. The second is the issue with the sights that I addressed in this article. Unfortunately, S&W does not currently make another sight for this gun, nor has the aftermarket full caught up.

I believe aftermarket sights will be available soon, and you can expect a major update to this review when they are available.Watch the video for full details. This is a really cool pistol. It needs a couple small improvements but overall it’s pretty good.
