The Wilson Combat SFX9 is the second iteration of Wilson’s series of double-stack, 1911-style pistols. The series was introduced with the EDC X9 in 2017 and was followed by the SFX9. The SFT9 is the newest in the series. I purchased an SFX9 in the spring of 2023. A year and a half later, what do I think? This Wilson Combat SFX9 review covers my experience from day 1 to present.
Full Disclosure: I purchased this pistol, all its accessories, magazines, and ammunition for this review out of pocket. At this time I have a relationship with AmmunitionToGo.com, who provides me some ammunition for reviews. As a result you will see some links to AmmoToGo in this article.
The Wilson Combat SFX9 Review
The SFX9 is the second iteration of the EDC X9 series of pistols, and is succeeded by the SFT9. All are in current production, and the SFX/STF pistols are (to my knowledge) identical in all but their checkering patterns. These pistols are neither true 1911 or 2011, hence the wordy moniker “double-stack, 1911-style pistols.”
With a base price of $3,174†, the Wilson Combat SFX9 is not an inexpensive pistol. Is it worth it? What do you get for that amount of money? I hope this review answers that question. I have fired 2,074 rounds through this pistol since receiving it. Ammunition was a mix of 115-grain FMJ, 124-grain FMJ, 150-grain FMJ, and Federal 124-grain +P HST. I fired a number of drills and standards including the Gunsite 250 drill, Wilson 5×5 Skills Test, Hackathorne Standards, and the BATFE qual, In the video I cover the gun’s features, followed by reliability, ergonomics, accuracy, and portability.
I am a 1911 fan (obviously) and worked really hard on this review. I hope you enjoy it!
†I found a great deal from a third-party retailer on my and didn’t pay close to this much, in case you were wondering.
