How to Get a Good Night’s Sleep
This is one of my favorite episodes, and one that Rich and I both, completely separately, put on our wishlist of shows we wanted to do.Getting a good night’s sleep is incredibly important. It impacts your body in so many ways it is almost incalculable. Rich and I did this episode because I really believe that we have undervalued sleep – a biological necessity – and do a huge disservice to ourselves by doing so. This is probably our most-referenced episode, as improving yourself in nearly any way can be improved if you get a good night’s sleep.

How to Get a Good Nights Sleep
Learning to consistently get a good night’s sleep is maybe one of the most important things you can do to improve short-term performance and long-term health. The benefits of getting good sleep are hard to ignore:
– Live longer
– Have better cognitive function
– Manage your weight
– Enjoy a better sex life
– Have a stronger immune system
– Better relationships
– Reduce stress and improve your mood
– Lower your risk of accident and injury
Quantity vs Quality: don’t confuse the two. You need an adequate time spent sleeping, but your sleep also needs to be high-quality sleep.
There are some steps you can take to get a good nights sleep:
– Have a single-purpose space (bedroom)
– Avoid stimulants like tobacco and caffeine
– Have a distraction-free environment
– Make it dark, quiet, and cool/cold
– Aromatherapy?
– Have a bedtime ritual

Sleep Thieves by Stanley Coren. This is still one of the best books I’ve ever read on sleep.

Hindsight/Behind the Scenes
This was such a fun episode to listen to despite the static. I know that static sure is annoying and if I could change anything I would go back and re-record those episodes that are so plauged.
