By , on

Welcome back to the Across The Peak Podcast, the show Where Rich and Justin discuss preparedness, the birds and the bees, guns, history, tattoos, and… well, basically all the stuff your old man shoulda taught you! After a four-year silence we are re-releasing the ATP archive. Here it is, folks, Across The Peak Episode 039: Read the Room with Situational Awareness. This show was originally released on 02/27/2019.

What are you drinking?

Rich’s Drink: Water
Justin’s Drink: Noble Nectar from Uinta

If you thought I was bullshitting about putting an ATP sticker on my car…I wasn’t. This is it then, and it’s still here (and in really good shape) now.

Situational Awareness

This was a phenomenally good episode! This one really stands the test of time and there is pretty much nothing I would change. We recommended a bunch of books, including:

Principles of Personal Defense by Jeff Cooper
Left of Bang by Patrick van Horne and Jason A. Riley
What Every “Body” Is Saying by Joe Navarro

I recommended this phenomenal article by Greg Ellifritz called How to Spot a Bad Guy: A Comprehensive Look at Body Language and Pre-Assault Indicators.

Rich talked about the murder of Constable Darrell Lunsford. The video below shows the murder, and Rich explains some of the pre-assault indicators that may have saved Lunsford’s life, had he observed them.

Rich also recommended (and I second) the Active Self Protection YouTube channel.

We talked about micro-expressions and Dr. Ekman’s excellent Emotions Revealed.

You have to listen to the show for the full content but trust me – IT IS WORTH IT! This is a great show. It will make you both more competent and more dangerous.

Hindsight/Behind the Scenes

This was a serious, heavy episode. To lighten things up just a bit, let’s talk about Jake the Dog again. In this show I mentioned that maybe Rich’s face was screwed up because Jake walked by and farted. A few days after this show I captured this photo of Jake:

We posted it with a caption that began, “what’s this about Justin saying I farted?” Obviously I’ve never been much of a social media guy but I did have a lot of fun with the ATP Instagram!
