Across The Peak E001
In this episode Rich and I explain the concept of being generalists. Being a generalist is the underlying concept of Across The Peak – possessing enough knowledge to be function across a broad range of disciplines. We also – while recognizing the need for experts – caution against becoming overly specialized. This first episode is the explanation of what to expect from ATP.

The idea behind ATP was to give the average individual the information they need to competent and dangerous (as we discuss in the next show). This means tackling some unfamiliar and sometimes intimidating topics – even for us. From running a chainsaw to cooking a meal to defending one’s life – we hoped to cover it all in this show.

Book of the Week
The Stuff of Thought by Steven Pinker. This was my pick and I still stand behind this recommendation. I will probably re-read this book soon.

Hindsight/Behind the Scenes
Though ATP hadn’t quite hit its stride by the first show, we were still surprised at how good this one was. One question: what was up with the “host and tour guide” thing? I’m sure there was an idea there, but obviously it wasn’t fully formed. I don’t think it lasted very long but we’ll see. Audio quality is surprisingly good, especially for an early episode. Four stars.
