This show was supposed to air on 04/10/2019, but it was never edited and never listened to (even by us), so you’re hearing it for the first time!
The Value of Doing Hard Things
A few days ago I had a conversation with a good friend about the Field Survival class I recently attended at Randall’s Adventure Training. He mentioned taking and I said that if he did, I would go with him. His response: “I’m getting the feeling you enjoy the suffering…” I don’t enjoy suffering more than anyone else, but I do find the value of doing hard things to be tremendously high.

AAR: Gelhaus, Hearne, & Weems’ Cognitive Conclave
It has been quite some time since I have attended a pistol class. I’m not a GM or anything, but I have a decent level of skill with a pistol, and handgun classes just haven’t been a training priority for me over the past few years. This year I ran across the Cognitive Conclave, a pistol class offering something different and I had to do it. This is a detailed, after-action review of that class.

Shooting Clothed Targets
I have thought a lot about the visual cues we create for ourselves in training. We shoot at targets with clearly defined “A” Zones, bullseyes, down-0 areas, and other clearly marked hits. Are we likely to have these visual cues in a life-or-death confrontation, though? Probably not, and thus the idea of shooting clothed targets.

Let’s Talk About Fentanyl
As is frequently pointed out, anything – hammers, cars, guns…whatever – can be used for good or ill, depending on the user and intent. And such is the case with fentanyl. Though it’s the new “f-word,” fentanyl is one of the best, safest narcotic pain relievers in emergency medicine. This statement surprises a lot of people, so let’s talk about it.

UPDATED AAR: Randall’s Adventure Training Field Survival
“This 3-day class is an aggressive immersion into the challenges of surviving with minimal gear in a field setting. THIS IS NOT A BUSHCRAFT CLASS!” “Significant stressors are placed upon the student in the forms of hunger, physical exertion, thirst, lack of gear, personal discomfort, and sleep deprivation as a means to simulate a 72 hour survival scenario.” “BE WARNED: THIS IS NOT AN EASY CLASS!” These warnings were all present in the literature for the Randall’s Adventure Training Field Survival Course.
